Using minimal equipment the surface watering technique, otherwise known as the
watering can technique, is one of the easiest ways to grow plants
hydroponically.
Plants are grown in plastic pots containing crushed granite,
sand or scoria, or a mixture of perlite and vermiculite with the nutrient being supplied
by means of a plastic watering can.
Each pot must contain a drainage hole.
Inside the pot, cover the drainage hole with a filter, such as shade cloth, to
prevent seepage of the medium.
Stand the pots in a container which will allow for adequate drainage.
